Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: satire n., -ist suffix.
Etymology: < satire n. + -ist suffix.With the α. forms compare α. forms at satire n. In quot. 1589 apparently partly representing (with misapprehended sense) Hellenistic Greek σατυριστής player of satyric drama < ancient Greek Σατύροι (plural) Satyric drama (see satyr n.) + -ιστής -ist suffix.
A writer or producer of satires; a person who uses satire; a person who satirizes someone or something. Also with of specifying the person, state of affairs, etc., satirized.
