释义 | sangschawn. Scottish (chiefly literary). A competitive festival of song and poetry. Also figurative. ΚΠ 1906 in Scotsman 17 Dec. 6/6 It was agreed that..the [Scottish National Song] Society..shall..hold an annual sangschaw, at which prizes shall be awarded for proficiency in the rendering of Scottish music, vocal and instrumental. 1915 Rymour Club Miscellanea (1920) II. v. 155 The grand galravaging winds of the world are joining the sea in singing the Sangshaw of the Spheres. 1999 Press & Jrnl. (Aberdeen) (Nexis) 27 Mar. (Educ. section) 13 Flora wrote her first poem..for a sangshaw in Aberdeen, which she won. 2011 Dumfries & Galloway Standard (Nexis) 28 Oct. 40 Stranraer poet Sam Gilliland has again taken honours in the Scottish Language Society's highly prestigious Sangshaw literary event.
