The restriction of a piece of software or code to a specific environment in a computer system in which it can be run securely, being able only to access (and be accessed by) certain resources, programs, files, etc. Cf. sandbox n. Additions.Sandboxing is used when testing an item of software or code, or to reduce the risk of malware or security vulnerabilities in an item of software affecting the rest of a computer system.
