Biochemistry.

A vitamin of the B complex which is essential for various metabolic carboxylation reactions and is found esp. in egg yolk, liver, and yeast. Also called vitamin B₇, vitamin H.Biotin functions as a carrier of carboxyl groups in various enzymes that bring about carboxylation reactions. It is bicyclic with fused heterocyclic rings and a carboxylic acid side chain. Formula: C₁₀H₁₆N₂O₃S.
