Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: proper name Sade , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < the name of the Count de Sade (see sadism n.) + -ic suffix, probably after French sadique (1862). Compare Italian sadico (1889). Compare slightly earlier sadistic adj.
