Origin: Probably a borrowing from Igbo. Etymon: Igbo bé m̄.
Etymology: Probably < Igbo bé m̄ my house (in e.g. ndi be m̄ my household, lit. ‘people of my house’) < house, home + m (first person singular independent pronoun) I, me, my.Barbados appears to have had a significant population of Igbo speakers.
Caribbean colloquial.
1. A native or inhabitant of Barbados; a person of Barbadian descent. Cf. Barbadian n., Bajan n. Now rare.Formerly a British colony, Barbados became an independent nation in 1966.
