Etymology: < Russia, the name of a country in Eastern Europe and Asia (the borders of which have changed very considerably in the past) < post-classical Latin Russia (11th cent.; frequently from 12th cent. in British sources) < Russi (plural noun) the Russians (see Russ n.) + -ia -ia suffix1.The name is attested in English from the 14th cent.
