†(a) The yellow colouring matter of saffron. Now Obsolete. (b) A coal-tar colour which dyes yellowish-red. Also, any of a large class of azine dyestuffs (chiefly red) related to this, which are obtained typically by coupling of diazotized aromatic monoamines with aromatic diamines. Sometimes with following letter designating particular compounds.
