Etymology: < classical Latin rūricola person who tills the land, husbandman, country dweller, rustic ( < rūri- , combining form of rūr- , rūs country (see rural adj.; compare -i- connective) + -cola : see -cole comb. form) + -ist suffix.
Obsolete.
A person who lives or works in the country; esp. a farmer.
