Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ruptor.
Etymology: < classical Latin ruptor person who breaks or violates an agreement, in post-classical Latin also person who breaks or bursts (something) (5th cent.) < rupt- , past participial stem of rumpere to break (see rumpent n.) + -or -or suffix.
Obsolete.
A person who or thing which ruptures something. Also: a destroyer.
