Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: rug n.3, headed adj.
Etymology: < rug n.3 + headed adj.
Having coarse unkempt hair; shock-headed.In quot. 1597, perhaps with reference to the practice, formerly common in Ireland, of wearing the hair in a thick mass over the forehead and eyes (see glib n.1). In later quots. the term is chiefly used of Irish people, with allusion to quot. 1597.
