Etymology: < row v.1 + barge n.1 Compare Dutch roeibarge (1528 as roeybarse), Middle Low German rōjebārdese, and also Dutch roeibark (1598 as roeybarcke), Middle Low German rōjebarke.The English word was borrowed into French in the 16th cent. (see ramberge n.).
