Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: acro- comb. form, -petal comb. form.
Etymology: < acro- comb. form + -petal comb. form, after German acropetal (1868 or earlier).
Tending or moving towards the summit or apex; (Botany) produced, developing, or opening successively from the base or point of attachment upwards (contrasted with basipetal).
