Etymology: < German Rumicin (P. L. Geiger 1831, in Ann. der Chem. u. Pharm. 9 304) < classical Latin rumic- , rumex sorrel (see Rumex n.) + German -in -in suffix¹.With the form rumicine compare -ine suffix⁵, and also French rumicine (1842 or earlier).

Chemistry. Now rare.

A phenolic compound obtained from dock ( Rumex spp.), later identified with chrysophanic acid.
