Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin rostellum.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin rostellum (see rostellum n.). Compare slightly earlier rostellum n. and perhaps also earlier rostle n. N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation as (rǫ·stĕl) /ˈrɒstəl/.
Botany. Obsolete.
The radicle of a seed; cf. rostellum n. 1.
