A gambling card game in which cards are turned up by the dealer in two rows (designated ‘red’ and ‘black’) until each row totals between thirty and forty, players having bet on which row will total closer to thirty-one. Also called trente et quarante.Now chiefly played in the casinos of continental Europe, esp. France.
