Etymology: < scientific Latin Rotalia (see rotalian adj.) + -id suffix3, after German Rotaliden, plural noun ( M. Schultze Über den Organismus der Polythalamien (1854) 24). Compare earlier rotaline adj. and slightly later rotaline n.
