Origin: Apparently either (i) a borrowing from Dutch. Or (ii) formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Dutch roerer ; rore v., -er suffix1.
Etymology: Apparently either < Middle Dutch roerer person who moves (emotionally) (although this is first attested later (15th cent.); early modern Dutch roerer person who sets something in motion; < roeren rore v. + -er -er suffix1), or < rore v. (although that is first attested later) + -er suffix1. Compare Middle Low German rōrer a person who touches (rare). Compare later rore v.
Obsolete. rare.
Perhaps: a disturber of the peace.
