Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin acrodontes.
Etymology: < scientific Latin acrodontes, plural ( J. G. Wagler Natürliches System der Amphibien (1830) 237) < acro- acro- comb. form + ancient Greek -οδόντ- , -όδους -odont comb. form. Compare French acrodontes, plural (1834).

An animal, esp. a reptile, whose teeth lack sockets and are permanently attached to the summit of the alveolar ridge of the jaw.
