Origin: A borrowing from Polish. Etymon: Polish robotnik.
Etymology: < Polish robotnik worker ( < robota work (see robot n.1) + -nik -nik suffix), in later use sometimes analysed as < robot n.2 + -nik suffix. Compare Czech robotnik serf, Russian rabotnik worker.
A serf; a worker, esp. one who mindlessly obeys authority.
