Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin rōbīginōsus.
Etymology: < classical Latin rōbīginōsus rusty < rōbīgin- , rōbīgō rust, blight ( < rōbus red (ultimately < the same Indo-European base as red adj.) + -īgō , suffix forming nouns) + -ōsus -ous suffix. Compare earlier rubiginous adj.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Rusty, corroded; (of a plant) affected with blight.
