Etymology: < classical Latin acrochordōn wart with a thin neck (Celsus) < ancient Greek ἀκροχορδών (Hippocrates) < ἄκρο- acro- comb. form + χορδή chord n.1 Compare Middle French, French acrochordon (mid 16th cent.; 14th cent. as actocordines, plural; 15th cent. as acroconides, plural).In form achrocordine perhaps after post-classical Latin acrochordines, plural (1542 or earlier).
Medicine.
A small, benign, usually pedunculated growth on the skin; spec. = skin tag n. at skin n. Compounds 5.
