Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: rittock n.
Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps a variant of rittock n. (although if so, the phonological development is difficult to explain). Sc. National Dict. (at Ritto) records the word as still in use (in form rippek) in Shetland in 1968.
Scottish (Orkney and Shetland). Now rare.
