Chem. 16 470) < ancient Greek ῥιπίδ- , ῥιπίς fan (see rhipidoglossate adj.) + German -o- -o- connective + -lith -lite comb. form¹. N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation as (rəipi·dǫ̆ləit) /raɪˈpɪdəlaɪt/.
