The lord high chancellor of the Swedish privy council.Chiefly with reference to Axel Oxenstierna (1583–1654), in office 1612–54, the dominant political figure in Sweden between the death of King Gustavus II Adolphus in 1632 and the majority of Queen Christina in 1644.The office was abolished in 1680, restored in 1792, and abolished again in 1799.
