Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ringilderia.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin ringilderia, ringildria (from 1335 in British sources) < ringildus sergeant (see ringild n.) + classical Latin -eria -ery suffix. Compare Welsh rhingyllaeth sergeantship, ringildry (see ringild n.). Compare earlier ringildie n. and ringildship n., and also ringild n. Compare later ringild n. 2.

Chiefly in medieval and early modern Wales: the position or office of a sergeant or bailiff; = ringild n. 1, ringildship n. In later use: or the region administered by a sergeant or bailiff.In quot. 1708 (perhaps by confusion) applied to the office-holder.
