Etymology: < classical Latin rigēscent-, rigēscēns, present participle of rigēscere to become stiff or rigid < rigēre to be stiff (see rigent adj.) + -ēscere (see -escent suffix). Compare earlier rigescence n.
Chiefly Biology. Now rare.
Tending to be or becoming rigid or stiff; nearly or rather rigid.
