单词 rightleche
释义

rightlechev.

Forms:

α. Old English rihtlæcan, early Middle English richtleche, early Middle English rihhtlæchenn ( Ormulum), early Middle English rihtlache, early Middle English rihtlæce, early Middle English rihtleche, early Middle English ryhtleche, Middle English riȝteleche, Middle English riȝtleche, Middle English ryȝtleche.

β. Middle English riȝtliche, Middle English riȝtlyche.

Past tense. early Middle English rihtlecede, late Middle English ryghtlakyd (Irish English). Past participle Old English gerihtlæced, Old English gerihtlæht, early Middle English irihtlæht, early Middle English irihtlæiht, early Middle English rihhtlæchedd ( Ormulum).
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: right adj., -leche suffix.
Etymology: < right adj. + -leche suffix. In β. forms perhaps remodelled after adjectives in -lich -ly suffix1, or perhaps after other verbs in -leche suffix: compare discussion at -leche suffix. (The reflex of Old English rihtlic (adjective) probably did not survive this late: see rightly adv.) The explanation for the past tense form ryghtlakyd is unclear. In Old English the prefixed form gerihtlǣcan to make straight, to direct, guide, to correct, reform (compare y- prefix) is also attested; it is unclear whether the prefixed past participle form gerihtlǣht in quot. OE at sense 2 represents the prefixed or the unprefixed verb, as formally it may belong to either. The prefixed verb survives into early Middle English in late copies of material of Old English composition.
Obsolete.
