单词 rhymer
释义

rhymern.

Brit. /ˈrʌɪmə/, U.S. /ˈraɪmər/
Forms: see rhyme v. and -er suffix1; also late Middle English rymor, 1600s rymour; Scottish pre-1700 rymor, pre-1700 rymour.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French rimour ; rhyme v., -er suffix1.
Etymology: Partly (in early use) < Anglo-Norman rimour ( < rimer rhyme v. + -our -our suffix; compare Middle French, French rimeur ), and partly < rhyme v. + -er suffix1; with pejorative use in English compare similar use of Middle French, French rimeur (from mid 16th cent.), and compare also rhymester n. Compare Middle High German rīmære (German Reimer ), Old Swedish rimare (Swedish rimmare ). Compare also rhythmer n.With forms in -or , -our compare -or suffix, -our suffix. It is uncertain whether earlier instances as a surname or as a (vernacular) occupational term in multilingual documents reflect the Anglo-Norman word (with forms in -er compare -er suffix2) or reflect earlier currency in Middle English; compare e.g.:1229 in P. H. Reaney & R. M. Wilson Dict. Brit. Surnames (1976) 295 Warin Rymer.1358 in M. C. B. Dawes Reg. Black Prince (1932) III. 317 [40 s. to John Alisaundre,] rymour. The word is found earlier in contextual use in Middle English with the sense ‘idler, trifler’:1440 J. Capgrave Life St. Norbert (1977) l. 5 Þouȝ I be of rymeris now þe leest, Ȝet wil I now..Put me in daungere in þis werk.
