Etymology: < classical Latin rhododaphnē oleander (Pliny) < Hellenistic Greek ῥοδοδάϕνη < ancient Greek ῥόδο- rhodo- comb. form + δάϕνη Daphne n.; so called on account of the fact that the shrub has laurel-like leaves and rose-like flowers.
