单词 rhodanthe
释义

rhodanthen.

Brit. /rəʊˈdanθi/, U.S. /ˌroʊˈdænθi/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Rhodanthe.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Rhodanthe (1834) < post-classical Latin Rhodanthe , name of a character in mythology (1625 or earlier) < Hellenistic Greek Ῥοδάνθη , name of a character in mythology < ancient Greek ῥόδον rose (see rhodo- comb. form) + ἄνθος flower (see anthos n.). The application of the name to this particular plant is apparently arbitrary.Rhodanthe appears in the poem Rhodanthe and Dosicles by the Byzantine Greek writer Theodorus Prodromus. A character of this name also appears in several poems in the Anthologia Graeca.
Any of numerous Australian and South African xerophytic plants constituting the genus Rhodanthe (family Asteraceae ( Compositae)), which have daisy-like everlasting flowers; esp. the pink-flowered Australian R. manglesii, often grown as a half-hardy annual. Also (in form Rhodanthe): the genus itself.Valid publication of the genus name: J. Lindley 1835, in Edwards's Bot. Reg. 20 1703.These plants have sometimes been included in the former genus Helipterum.
