Chemistry.

Any of a class of synthetic xanthene dyes, chiefly pinks and reds, which are obtained by condensation of phthalic anhydride with m-aminophenols. Usually with following capital letter, numeral, etc., denoting a particular member of this class, as rhodamine B, rhodamine G.
