单词 rhizopus
释义

Rhizopusn.

Brit. /ˈrʌɪzə(ʊ)pəs/, U.S. /ˈraɪzoʊpəs/, /ˈraɪzəpəs/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Rhizopus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Rhizopus (C. G. Ehrenberg 1821, in Nova acta physico-med. Acad. Cæsareæ Leopoldino-Carolinæ Naturæ Curiosorum 10 198) < rhizo- rhizo- comb. form + ancient Greek πούς foot (see -pod comb. form), probably in allusion to the long stolon-like hyphae of the fungus.
A genus of zygomycete fungi (order Mucorales), the members of which are saprobic and include species which cause rots in fruit and vegetables and opportunistic infections (mucormycosis) in humans and other animals; (also) a fungus of this genus. Frequently attributive.
