Etymology: < rhizo- comb. form + -phorous comb. form. In sense 1 after scientific Latin Rhizophora Rhizophora n. With sense 2 compare Byzantine Greek ῥιζοϕόρος and scientific Latin rhizophorus (1789 or earlier).

Botany. Now rare.

1. Belonging or relating to the genus Rhizophora or the family Rhizophoraceae of mangroves (see Rhizophora n.).
