Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin rhīnocerōt- , rhīnocerōs , -oid suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin rhīnocerōt-, rhīnocerōs rhinoceros n. + -oid suffix. In later spec. use after scientific Latin Rhinocerotoidea (T. Gill 1872, in Smithsonian Misc. Coll. 11 12).

An animal resembling a rhinoceros; spec. a mammal of the superfamily Rhinocerotoidea, which comprises the rhinoceroses and related extinct forms.
