Origin: Probably either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or perhaps (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: rime v.2, -er suffix1; reamer n.
Etymology: Probably < rime v.2 (although this is first attested later in the relevant sense: see rime v.2 3c) + -er suffix1, or perhaps a variant of reamer n. Compare slightly later rimmer n.1
Now chiefly Nautical.
A tool for enlarging holes; = reamer n. 1. Also: a tool for clearing a hole, tube, etc., of obstructions.
