A very rare, dense, metallic chemical element of the transition series, atomic number 75, which resembles platinum in appearance. Symbol Re.The last non-radioactive element to be discovered, and the least abundant, rhenium occurs in trace amounts in ores of molybdenum and other metals. It has a very high melting point and is used in some superconducting alloys.
