Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element. Etymons: proper name Rheā , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin Rheā (ancient Greek Ῥέα : see rhea n.1) + -ic suffix.In classical mythology, Rhea was the sister of Kronos and Iapetus. The name Iapetus had previously been given to an ocean regarded as the precursor of the Atlantic, Iapetus being the father of Atlas in Greek mythology.
Geology.
Rheic ocean n. an ocean which is thought to have existed during the late Palaeozoic, between Gondwana to the south and some smaller continents to the north.
