Also attributive, as reticella lace, reticella motif, etc. Cf. reticello n. 2.Reticella is formed by cutting out background areas of embroidered fabric and filling the spaces with stitching, or by cutting and withdrawing threads to leave a netlike framework on to which further stitches are placed to create patterns. In later examples, the lace is formed by stitching alone, unsupported by the fabric base.
