Etymology: Probably < rule n.2 (attested slightly later in regional (north.) form reul). Compare earlier revel v.1 Compare also earlier roil v.1 (later in most relevant sense: roil v.1 3), and slightly earlier roil n.2
English regional (northern). Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
intransitive. To behave in a rude or unruly manner. Cf. rule n.2
