Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: re- prefix, vibrate v.
Etymology: < re- prefix + vibrate v., after post-classical Latin revibrare (1679 in this sense in the passage translated in quot. 1702; 5th cent. in senses ‘to reflect (something)’ and ‘to give a reflection’). Compare earlier revibrating n., revibration n.
1. transitive. To cause to vibrate again; to subject to a second or further vibration. Now chiefly technical.
