Etymology: < classical Latin resūdāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of resūdāre to be covered to excess with moisture, to ooze, in post-classical Latin also (in figurative use) to sweat out (4th cent.) < re- re- prefix + sūdāre sudate v. Compare Middle French, French ressuer (c1225 in Old French as resuer ), Catalan †ressuar (late 15th cent.), Spanish resudar (late 15th cent.), Portuguese ressudar (1670). Compare earlier resudation n.
Obsolete. rare.
intransitive. To sweat, perspire.
