Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin revocativus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin revocativus that revokes or recalls (14th cent. in a British source; earlier in medical context in sense ‘tending to bring back’ (a1250 in a British source)) < classical Latin revocāt- , past participial stem of revocāre revoke v. + -īvus -ive suffix. Compare French révocatif (1686; 1771 designating the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes). Compare earlier revocatory adj.
