Etymology: < post-classical Latin restiformis (1725 or earlier) < classical Latin restis rope, cord (probably ultimately < the same Indo-European base as Sanskrit rajju rope, cord, Lithuanian rezginės netting, rezginys tangle, web, Latvian režģis grid, grating, lattice) + -formis -form comb. form². Compare French restiforme (1753 or earlier), Spanish restiforme (1829 or earlier), Portuguese restiforme (1839).

Anatomy.

Resembling a cord; spec. (esp. in restiform body) designating the inferior cerebellar peduncle, a bundle of nerve fibres connecting the spinal cord and medulla oblongata with the cerebellum; of or relating to this.
