Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) formed within English, by conversion. Etymons: re- prefix, start n.2; restart v.
Etymology: Either < re- prefix + start n.2, or < restart v. N.E.D. (1908) gives only a pronunciation with stress on the second syllable; O.E.D. (ed. 2, 1989) records both a pronunciation with stress on the second syllable and a pronunciation with stress on the first syllable. Oxf. Dict. Pronunc. for Current English (2001) gives only a pronunciation with stress on the first syllable.
