Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French reverdie.
Etymology: < French reverdie (13th cent. in Old French, although the modern French word apparently shows a revival of the Old French or Middle French word in the early 19th cent. or earlier), use as noun of feminine of past participle of reverdir (12th cent. in Old French) < re- re- prefix + verdir to become green (see verdic adj.).
A song or dance from medieval France celebrating the return of spring; a song composed in imitation of this.
