Origin: Of multiple origins. Apparently partly a borrowing from French. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French replicable ; replicate v., -able suffix.
Etymology: In sense 1 apparently < Middle French replicable that may be replied to or argued with, refutable (15th cent., also as repliquable ) < repliquer replique v. + -able -able suffix. In sense 2 < replic- (in replicate v.) + -able suffix. Compare post-classical Latin replicabilis that repeats itself (4th or 5th cent.), worthy of repetition (6th cent.). With sense 2 compare earlier replicability n.
