Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin resistibilis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin resistibilis capable of being resisted (1626 in the passage translated in quot. 1629) < classical Latin resistere resist v. + -ibilis -ible suffix. Compare French résistible (1688), Spanish resistible (1588; rare before 18th cent.). Compare earlier unresistible adj., irresistible adj., and also resistable adj.
Capable of being resisted; to which resistance can be made. In later use sometimes humorously: by no means irresistible; notably lacking in attractive qualities.
