Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin reparātor.
Etymology: < classical Latin reparātor person who renews or restores, in post-classical Latin also with specific reference to Christ as redeemer (4th cent.) < reparāt- , past participial stem of reparāre repair v.2 + -or -or suffix. Compare Middle French reparateur, French réparateur redeemer, saviour (c1350), person who repairs (a building, etc.) (16th cent.; rare), person who makes amends or recompense (16th cent.).
