Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin rēnēs , -ule suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin rēnēs (plural) kidneys (see reins n.) + -ule suffix. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (re·niul) /ˈrɛnjuːl/.
Zoology. Obsolete.
Each of the separate lobules of which the kidneys in some mammals are composed. Cf. reniculus n. 2.
